About Us

In 1970, residents concerned about the accelerating pace of development founded OCT as a nonprofit membership organization. They aimed to preserve "the beauty and seaside charms of Orleans" by acquiring and holding lands in their natural state.

A half-century later, OCT stewards more than 660 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and shorelines for the benefit of our town and our cherished coastal environment. Building on our original mission to protect open space for habitat and recreation, the Trust’s work today also helps our community adapt to the changing climate. We create and maintain trails for all to enjoy, lead guided walks, and put on programs where people get a deeper understanding of the place where they live.

The Orleans Conservation Trust protects and restores natural lands — for people and wildlife, the health of our waters, and the character of our community.
