About Us
Established in 1995.
The Barley Neck Inn was once the retirement home of Captain JOE Taylor (1868). His fortune and fame rested on commissioning the Red Jacket clipper ship, holder of the transatlantic record. His son Mark Taylor started King Arthur Flour [Sands, Taylor, Woods]. After his death (1904) the property passed on to the Gundry's, the dad being the youngest bank president in the nation, the wife a published writer and suffragist, the sons Harvard grads & World War I ambulance corps drivers. They called it the Quaohog. The sons never married and ended up renting their home out in the summers (1950's) until the Nicoli's bought the property and called it The Packet Landing Inn. In the 70's they leased a portion of the building and the name changed to the Barley Neck Inn.
