In the last few years, Orleans has moved Economic Development to a more prominent position in town discussions by adopting an economic development plan and hiring an economic development coordinator, as well as having an energized Chamber of Commerce. Economic Development is often thought of as a one-pronged solution to drive business development, yet it is decidedly more complex, needing to engage multiple actors, programs and policies to be effective. This multitude of stakeholders often makes it difficult to envision the strategy and may seem slow to develop. In this session, we will hear about the pulse of the Orleans business community, actions that the town is taking to drive economic development and successful strategies in other parts of the Cape. Then, armed with this information, attendees will have a chance to brainstorm solutions to building a better Orleans economy in small groups led by business owners from the Orleans Chamber of Commerce.

Amanda Converse, Economic Development Coordinator for Orleans
