Prep Cook – Job Description

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Prep Cook to support our kitchen team. The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, and passionate about food preparation and kitchen operations. This role is essential in ensuring our chefs have everything they need for smooth, high-quality service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, chopping, slicing, weighing, and portioning
  • Follow recipes and prep lists provided by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager
  • Maintain proper food storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO method)
  • Assist with basic cooking tasks as needed (stocks, sauces, marinades, etc.)
  • Ensure all food is prepared according to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Keep prep areas clean, organized, and fully stocked
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely (knives, mixers, slicers, etc.)
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries
  • Communicate inventory needs or shortages to kitchen leadership
  • Help with cleaning duties at the end of shifts

Qualifications

  • Previous kitchen or food prep experience preferred, but not always required
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Frequent bending, chopping, and repetitive hand movements
